This is CHAOS! – Some days are just harder than others.

Today was not fun. I was not a happy teacher.
Some days nothing goes to plan.
Today is one of those days.
My playground duty starts at 8:30am.
A traffic incident causes “significant delays”.
I race in at 8:27am .
I’m frazzled before I begin.
An older student gives me a mouthful of bad attitude.
I do not handle it calmly with wisdom and grace.
We have multiple teachers away and classes need to be split.
I have extra humans in an already over-crowded room.
My “Famous Five” make it their united mission to drive me completely nuts.
The amazing lessons I had planned… aren’t working.
There are technology issues.
It is beginning to unravel.
I am beginning to unravel.
It’s pouring rain …
indoor recess.
It’s still raining…
indoor lunch!
I won’t be at work tomorrow.
I am taking my elderly mother to a serious medical appointment.
Our relationship is “complex”.
It will not be easy.
Maybe that’s why I’m a bit vulnerable.
There is a last-minute change of plans.
No casual teacher’s are available.
I need to re-prepare a full day of independent activities for them.
They will be the extra humans in someone else’s room tomorrow.
My tank is empty.
We will finish the day with 25 minutes of calm.

Thank You Jesus for BTN!
When the bell rings I am done.
Some days are not full of unicorns and rainbows.
Some days are hard.
* Meetings go overtime.
* Behaviour management fails.
* Lessons go wrong.
* Plans change last minute.
* Colleagues have conflict
* We are tired.
* We are busy.
* We are frustrated.
* We are sad about something else going on in our life.
This day was one of those days.
This day was chaos.
This day was overwhelming.
This day I made mistakes.
BUT …
This is just one day
AND …
This day is over!
I promise you that every bad day eventually comes to an end.
We get to leave.
We get to hug someone who loves us.
We get to eat a meal and maybe some ice cream too.
We get to watch Ted Lasso, lying on the lounge under a cosy blanket in our PJs.
We get to sleep in a comfy bed.
We get to rest and refresh.
We get to have another shot tomorrow.
Life has taught me that in the toughest of days, there are always things to be grateful for.
As a younger teacher, I would come home from a hard day feeling like a failure.
It was all too much.
But he truth is…
No matter how hard you try, some days are just going to be hard.
And that’s ok.
None of us have it all together.
We are all just doing our best.
How to be a happy teacher… go home at the end of a hard day with a grateful heart.
Thanks for walking this road with me,
Jen
